You might be having a bad day or you are just feeling down, but there are ways to make you feel better so you can seize the day. Our last post on Successful Habits focused on productivity and effectiveness, but there are days where you do not feel like you can be productive or effective, even when implementing good habits. Everybody has off days, these 6 tips will give you a boost:
Exercise for at least 7 minutes
Exercise has been proven to improve your mood and even your productivity during the day. If you are feeling down, take at least 7 minutes aside to do some exercises (preferably a full exercise, but if you are unable to, 7 minutes will suffice). Exercises could include walking, a quick jog, yoga or pushups. Personally I do weight training and running as my main base for exercise and take at least 3-5 days a week to make sure I get my training in, it helps you stay balanced; and of course healthy!
Sleep early today!
Making sure you get your sleep in is crucial to focus. As Benjamin Franklin said: “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”
Creating a proper routine for yourself ensures that you get enough sleep and fully utilize your day. Nobody is perfect so start slow and gradually make it a habit so you do not do it for a couple of days and fall back to your old habits.
Spend time with positive friends
There is no way that you will be able to stay down, when you are in a room with positive friends who encourage you to keep your head in the game. Recall a time when you were unhappy and you walked in a room full of happy people, you will immediately light up and feel the energy. This is one of my favorite ways to get my mind in the right place – good friends and a nice chat.
Plan a trip, you do not have to take it.
Go ahead and plan a trip that you would love to take, but don’t take it. Try to plan out your dream trip and put it on your calendar. Every time you feel down, remind yourself of the trip. It has been researched and proven that people who go on their holidays are happy when they go on their holiday but once they come back its back to the normal stress of the real world. In the study (by Dr. Jeroen Nawijnfound) found that the moment you plan to take a trip, your happy hormones kick in, so take full advantage!
Take your time to help someone, not only will it help you feel better but the other person as well. It will put you in a great space and if the person is grateful for your actions, it is even better!
If you regularly practice gratitude by taking time reflect on things in your life that you are thankful for, you will experience positive emotions, be more compassionate and kind. Positive emotions lead to a more balanced and healthy mental and physical state as well. Tony Robbins takes the time every morning to remind himself of the things he is grateful for and has expressed that this has worked for him. It might not work for you, but it might be worth a try considering the benefits of being grateful in general.
